beach trip!

from saranda, albania, we traveled to ksamil beach to spend an afternoon in the sun. we even hired a boat with some friends from our hostel to explore the nearby islands (though really we just wanted to play on the slippery dip!)

sicily

our home for the week was the small village of sant ambrogio, sicily. with only 250 residents, we enjoyed getting to know the locals and embracing their daily routine. we had our own car for the week and the weather was fantastic, so we made plenty of day trips. we explored the nearby villages cefalu, castelbourno and finale, the aeolian islands and numerous beaches in between- we even climbed a few volcanoes!

we were sad to end this week, though after our first afternoon in albania- it seems the weather and the stunning beach scenes are likely to continue!

pompeii & pizza

on route to sicily we visited naples to see the ruins of pompeii and to have some pizza!

we've been a little out of touch (sorry family!) during our stay in southern italy. internet cafes are rarer than hens teeth. otherwise we are quite suited to their lifestyles; daily siestas, gelato and beach trips, good food and great wine. we may have even built up a (slight) tan!

munchen

farewell germany! our last stop was munich, home of beer halls, castles and open spaces. our most exciting day here was a trip to we made to fussen, a couple of hours south of munich. here we visited castles, rode bikes and went on a hike (we were unprepared, three hours trekking in haviannas makes you pretty exhausted!)

on other days our time was spent wandering the english garden (equipped with permanent wave), checking out the beer halls and making friends with our first aussie roommates! it was a great couple of days and made for the perfect end to our time in germany.

coloured streets

perhaps our most interesting day in berlin; we joined an 'underground art' walking tour of the city. our tour guide, ben, explained the messages behind much of the graffiti as well as the stories of the artists themselves.
